About 65% of the CVS employees who are paid hourly wages are already making over $15 per hour, according to the companys news release.
According to its parent, 65% of company employees already earn more than the hourly minimum wage. Employees earn a median hourly wage of $13.46, according to Payscale, while $18.50 is the median salary at Bank of America. Walmarts median hourly pay was $16.40 in early September, according to CNBC.
Now, the median salary that the typical hourly worker would earn is over $13 an hour, with a range from $11 an hour to $17 an hour. In May, McDonalds announced an average pay hike of 10% to its employees in corporate-owned restaurants. In May, Under Armour announced a raise to its minimum hourly pay rates in the U.S. and Canada.
The German sports giant announced November 22 it would increase its minimum wage for Puma North America and Puma Canada retail employees to $15 an hour, starting November 29. The discount division of Saks Fifth Avenue announced Oct. 14 it would increase its minimum wage for all associates working at its stores across the country to $15 per hour. The membership-only warehouse chain announced plans to reach $15 hourly minimum wages for all employees by July 2022, and the hourly increases began late last month.
The Chicago-based drugstore announced plans last month to increase the hourly minimum to $15. Bank of America has also announced plans to require that all its vendors pay at least $15 an hour. Bank of America is now requiring that all of its vendors pay all their employees a minimum of $15 per hour.
Walgreens has raised wages as of this January for all American employees, and they will be paid at least $15 an hour. In early 2021, Costco announced plans to increase starting wages to $16 an hour.
In early August, Costco announced it was raising starting wages to $15 by July 2022, with the progressive increases starting immediately. Costco also confirmed in that same announcement that 65% of its hourly workers were already making over $15. Costco, which introduced the $15-per-hour starting salary in 2019, now pays all employees $16 an hour starting wages.
Currently, McDonalds starting wages are $11 to $17 an hour for entry-level workers, while shift managers earn $15 to $20. Starting wages for positions in stores and warehouses are $15 to $19 an hour, depending on the market and location. The average hourly wage is $99.13, according to the Department of Labor. That means that about half the occupations are earning $100 an hour or more.
Dollar General pays the lowest wages among 25 large, nationwide retailers, according to investment bank UBS, which has analyzed the wages reported by employees of the top 25 retailers nationwide, but it is still above the national minimum at $9.68 per hour, on average.

Starting August 2, 2020, Best Buy raised its starting hourly wage for all full-time, full-year domestic employees to $15 an hour. While Lowes has not implemented a permanent minimum wage increase for some years, Lowes did raise the hourly wages of all employees to $2 per hour at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After raising the wages for workers at Whole Foods in 2018, Whole Foods is now paying its hourly workers as low as $15/hour. In March of 2021, Kroger announced Kroger will again be taking similar steps, investing $350 million in implementation of wage increases which will raise its median pay to $16/hour. In May, Chipotle announced it was raising wages, leading to an average $15 per hour by the end of June.

Target raised the starting hourly wage to $15 in 2020, and announced full tuition coverage for over 40 schools for both part-time and full-time employees in August 2021, a benefit made available from the first day of work. In 2020, with fears of pandemic driving massive demand for food stores, turning food-service workers into essential workers, Kroger spent an estimated $300 million raising the Kroger median hourly wage to $15.50.
